Is cholesterol NOT really a killer?

by on Sep.24, 2009, under Cholesterol

Found an interesting article while looking for information on the relevance of cholesterol levels in relation to general health. It calls into question the relevance of statistical information with regards to statin drugs and lowering cholesterol.

The story can be found on the examiner.com at the following link:

My doctor’s office is nutz

by on Sep.04, 2009, under Cholesterol

After a couple of days of research I decided call my doctor to get a copy of the report for my cholesterol. Big as day is tells me that my specimen was lipemic. It also says my triglyceride were 1562 and my total cholesterol was 333. If my triglyceride were 1562 how the heck can my total cholesterol be only 333.

One of the things that I found during my research was that I was supposed to fast before I went to take my work-up. I had just eaten breakfast and lunch prior to my going into the doctors office. It basically makes my labs look like I’m about to fall over and die where I was standing.

They actually prescribed me medication based on this report.

I am going to have to call them and ask them to redo the test so that I can get a confirmation of what they are telling me.

Cholesterol Levels

by on Sep.02, 2009, under Cholesterol

When I got the follow up call from my doctor he told me that all my lab work came up fine except for my cholesterol levels.

The desirable levels for total cholesterol is less than 200 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter). To be at high rist you have to be anything over 240 mg/dL. I was told that my levels were over 1500 mg/dL. That’s at least 7.5 times the top end of the desirable levels for cholesterol.

The desirable levels for Triglyceride levels is less than 150 mg/dL. The very high levels is anything over 500 mg/dL. Mine was only in the high level sitting at 330 mg/dL.

My battle against cholesterol has now begun…

This is my first attempt at a blog

by on Sep.01, 2009, under About the Blog

I guess I should also mention that this is my first real attempt to really keep up with anything like this so we’ll just have to see if I can actually keep this going.

Almost blew a gasket just trying to get WordPress working correctly with all the stuff I just added.

Welcome

by on Sep.01, 2009, under Health

Last week I decided, after a follow up call from my doctor, to change a few of my habits concerning my health and my diet. Since I know myself and my habits I tend to start off doing well but trail off until I revert to my old habits.

I was once told that one of the ways to keep yourself honest was to keep a journal and make sure that you keep it updated so that you always have a record of how you are doing. I like that idea, but I would also like to keep myself honest so I’m finally creating a blog so that the World can help keep me honest so…. here I am world.

Be gentle… (unless I’m being bad)
